What kind of carpeting is used on the front speaker grills? I know its cutpile but does it use a backing or anything? I got some that is uncut but has a poly backing and there is NO WAY sound is gonna travel through it.
There is a latex backing instead but don't know about that one either. Should I use that or should I get something completely different?
AT least on mine (94) the front speakers are in the floor well kick panel. They have a plastic speaker cover that has that acustical (?) type carpet on it that matches the rest of the floor. It actually can be unscrewed from the back. I have some pics from my summer adventure in stereo land I'll try and post it for you.
That's what I have as well but the grill was cut into so the new speaker could be attached to it. So basically, I just need the carpeting that they have to go around the new speaker. Only problem is, I don't know where to get that acoustical stuff. :banghead:
so what you have now is a speaker cover cut with the speaker showing? And you want to go back to the original? If so, then just try a stereo shop, they have all types of carpet, covers, etc
Any stereo shop will have this carpeting as they do it all the time.
I would also tray to get some sort of grill since they are so easy to kick in the stock location and if someone cut out the "grill" part !!
That the speaker has a grill on it (came with the speaker) and that is attached to the kick panel. All it really lacks is the carpeting.
I know of some that could be used but I would like the original stuff (or at least something close to it as possible). Would any stereo shop be able to get the stuff or am I SOL?
probably won't be the same stuff. have you tried to order new speaker covers from Chris at Superior Chevy? He could probably get them pretty cheap. Check the sight in my sig to see what I did
I just recovered the speaker covers myself in black ... went to walmart in the fabric section they had two kinds that would of worked.
One was a softer material would of worked but was a bit different texture than the carpeting in the car...
The other was (Which is what I used) a black speaker box material in black that blend in really well... a very thin black carpeting .... looks great and thin enough to let sound through with the new 4x6 that replaces the blose box.... it all looks totally stock... I even padded it a bit.
If you need pics let me kow I'll run out there and snap some pics.
