Default Need Power Hookup location for 87

Guys, have aftermarket amp to install, and was wondering where to hook the main power lead for the amp....and if there are any special parts needed... your help is much appreciated...

The main power lead should be connected to the battery directly. There should be a fuse within 12" of the battery on that power lead.

Tell us the RMS wattage of the amplifier, we can reccommend gauge/fuse. Walmart has good amp hookup kits at awesome prices.

Thanks,,, got a sheet that has the ratings for wire gauge... but will check out the walmat ....

there is a small connector box behind the batter on the firewall side, that has a hot lead from the battery cable connected to it,, would that be the place to hook the cable too...

not really. it should be hooked directly to the post on the battery.

thats kinda hard , seeing as its a side terminal mount...

yeah, its a pain in the butt to get it on the battery.

now you CAN use that spot if you arent running more than like.. 200 watts... just make sure you clean up the post really well.

No.

Remove the inside nut on the stock battery cable and replace it with a nut/post designed for GM. Less than $5. Looks like this:
