Ok, I want to add an extra blinking LED light in my car. It doesnt have to work with the alarm , I just want it to blink when the car is off. Ive checked past threads and tried wiring it to the accessory plug in the corner of the footwell next to the bsm. That didnt work-- i tried everything. So where is a different place i can wire this thing?? It has 3 wires- ground , hot, ignition. Heck, Ill add a switch if its easy enough. Any suggestions?? --And please, take it easy on the jargon-- when it comes to wiring, Im an idiot. Thanks guys.
Rob
Wire the relay so that it switches power to the LED when the ignition feed is off. When the relay trips from ignition power (key on) the relay should fire and stop sending the power to the relay.
Radio Shack does not carry a 12V blinking LED, but they do have 12V steady LEDs.
Re: Question- Wiring an extra LED light (1999PewterCorvette)
no no no, the easiest place to get it is from the steering column. I believe ignition is yellow or pink on GM's but use a multimeter/voltmeter to be positive. you might be able to squeeze your hand up there even to see it all w/o taking a panel off, but if so, the panel under the steering wheel should come off w/ 2 screws (be careful not to lost the metal grommets that surround the plastic, I did and it is not as secure as it originally was.

PS... to get opposite of ignition, you can get a simple NOT logic device from radioshack, should take a +12V and GND and input and output, when high signal comes in, low goes out, and vice versa.
Re: Question- Wiring an extra LED light (rbartick)
I bought a blinking LED from eBay called "SIMULARM" I think it was about $5. I mounted in the center consol just in front of the active handling button. it came with 3 wires "constant 12 volt", "switched 12 volt", and "ground". I used the wiring for the cigarette lighter for the "constant 12 volt" and "ground". I used the YELLOW wire from the passenger fuse compartment for the "switched 12 volt". It comes on when you turn the car off and turns off when you turn the car on. Pretty
Re: Question- Wiring an extra LED light (leolufse)
I have a blinking - scanning (knight rider) type led already. I want to mount it on the rearview mirror. Someone said you could use the wires running to the mirror. Is this possible??? That would be perfect if it is possible. But I remember seeing some thick wiring up by the mirror but they were all black.--How would i know which ones to use. ?/ Thanks
