MObile Audion Lingo Trasnlator?
What is some lingo, like when I look at the AMP and Head units and speakers they say all this stuff, like RMS, and Crossover...etc etc..all of it, and I cant understand it, any of it.
whats a capacitor? 140 amp custom alternator can handle a small (read, under 900 watts rms) system?
RMS means Root Means Squared...in simple terms it is the amount of power your speaker can handle for an extended period of time.
Peak power handling is the power a speaker can handle for a short amount of time.
Crossover is a device that filters frequencys from a signal source. Speakers require crossovers so they play the frequencys they are designed to play. Subwoofer is made to play low frequencys so you would use a LPF or Low Pass Filter (filter is same as crossover) this is so the subs now only recieve low frequencys.
Alternator should be fine.
As far as installing your system. Unless you have experience with disassembly and reassembly of your car and a good working knowledge of tools I would take it to a professional shop to have it done. But you will not find it hard to recieve pointers and stuff on this forum. Good luck
so, will I need crossovers? are they expensive? Heres my planned system, but im open to affordable suggestions.
Alpine 9808 or 9813 Head unit
US Acoustics Amp, not sure which one yet,
(2) 10" Cerwin Vega Subwoofers, in a custom box (vented) 300 watts each RMS. 600 RMS for Both.
(2) Cerwin Vega 602 on the doors, 2 way, 4" mid, with tweeter. 120 RMS for both.
(2) Cerwin Vega 6X9 3 way in the back, 120 RMS for both.
So it will sound ok, considering the car has blown bose in it now...
again, will I need crossovers? If so, which ones?
What US acoustics amp would work?
good head unit?
