I know we have some pretty good audio experts here so I hope someone can help. I have a 12" sub box (for my 04' Z71 truck) that has .91cu ft space and only 5 1/2" mounting depth. So I am trying to find a 12" sub that will fit my application. Any thoughts? I don't care how much it is. Just want something that would fit and sound good. It will be powered by an old school RF Punch 150HD. The rest of my system (for those who care :D) will be a set of CDT HD-62's for the front and a set of RF SPL4 plates for the rear. Both powered by RF Punch 75HD's. I will be using the stock XM head unit. for now

The problem here is the depth of the box. No "supersubs" are going to fit in a box with only 5 1/2" of depth. You can get some good subs there like the Elemental Design Audio 12k(5.70"depth) $135 or the 12kx(5.5") $85 or the Adire Audio Shiva (5.25") $125. They are all good subs but they are the entry level subs from those companies. You may have to get another box built to accomodate the better subs like the ed12a(6.5) $295 or the Adire Audio Brahma 12 (7.25") $349.

Thanks! This is the biggest box that will fit under the backseat of my truck. I know the mounting space is not the greatest but I don't have much to work with. :( I was looking into getting the Audiobahn AWC12T as it would fit the depth and requires only .7cu to 1cu of space. So it might be a good choice. :) But I will still look around.
Ok I just checked out the Elemental Designs e12K on their site. Their spec says 5.7" mounting depth. Can I do something to make it fit in the 5 1/2" of depth I have? Is there some kind of spacer I can add?
Yes, a spacer was my first thought. You can use a 3/4" spacer made from MDF. Or 2 or 3. It might give the box a neat looking design, I just don't know how much room you have to increase the height of the box.
Lets pretend the box is 15"x15" where the sub mounts, you could make a 14"x14" square spacer and to screw and glue to the box, then make another 13"x13" to glue and screw to that. Just make sure you build an airtight box with plenty of liquid nails and caulk if necessary.
Roli... Check out the subs I mentioned before the Audiobahn sub, they are better for good SQ than the Audiobahn.
Thanks! I just placed an order for the E12Kx sub. It is the lower model but will mount in the 5 1/2" space that I have. I've never heard of this company so I hope the sub will suit my needs. What do you guys think of this "entry level" sub of theirs? I'm sure most of you all have the higher models. I would of bought one too but I don't think there is much room to spare where this box will be located.
Roli, they are not entry level ... they just for diff. application ...
I've read a post the other day from ED tech in this forum so if you search around, you should be able to find it!

Holy crap! This system is kick ****!!!! This went in my 2004 Chev truck....
EDesign Kx12.44 powered by RF Punch 150HD
CDT HD-62 powered by a RF Punch 75HD
RF SPL4 (4x6 plates) powered by a RF Punch 75HD
stock tweeters on front pillar.
PG Tantrum X-over
RF OEQ-1
Stock head unit
I'm happy with the bass. The sub looks killer as well. It was a good recommendation and thank you all for suggesting it. It was priced great as well. I kept the stock head unit cuz I liked the XM radio and 6 disc changer as well as the steering wheel controls. It sounds incredible!
Or, build another box and put 2-3 JL 6W0s in there. Get low and powerful.....my friend got his down to about 35hz and shook the windows in his f-150
I had four JL 10W0's in my C5 at one point and two 12W3's in my Z28. I didn't care for either of them. Their bass output is lacking something. Couldn't quite figure it out, just didn't sound all that great IMO.
I've heard the W0 and the regular W3 series and I don't think they are even close to anything ED puts out. So I think you've done well with your choice of subs.
