Default HU control

Here what I wanna do...I want to mount an Alpine HU in the glove compartment (cuz I'm keeping the stock radio in my '78 for looks)...problem is, how to control HU?
All the models I've seen have wireless IR remotes which won't work through the glove door...
Anybody know of a IR relay or other solution I could use to get the signal into the compartment?...ideas?
Also...in my S2000 I bought a switch which let me hook the vol up to the speedo for speed dependant vol--anybody know of a general purpose switch like this?
Thanks in advance!

You can go to this web site for an infared repeater. I have used this particular product many times and it works very well. http://peripheralelectronics.com/2002/specialty.asp Part number PVIRT. As far as the vol control...why don't you get the same one you had in the S2000? I have not heard of anything that does that but would like to know if you find something.

Hey thanks! Great link
Here's the one I was talking about http://lucidautomotive.com/cgi-bin/m...oduct_Code=dci
In fact...a cool thing about that device is that 1) It only needs two switches and a button to control most all Alpine HU functions...should be pretty easy to make and stash on a vette 2) It would probably obviate the need for what I was asking for...
I'll work on it some...

I have seen that part before by another manufacture. I thought you meant a part that is made specific for the volume control. TO make the volume go up and down with speed. Personally if I were you I would only use the peripherial piece. Reason being is that you can hide the IR eye easily and then all you need to do is point the remote at it. You do not need any extra switches.
