I would like to know if the power antenna output from an Alpine IVA-D900 has +12 volts whenever the unit is on or is it only hot when AM or FM is selected as the source. I need to know so I can put a switch inline if needed. That way the antenna won't always be up when listening to sources not needing it. I'm in the process of making the wiring harness up so I can't really test it myself.
this wouldn't be difficult to test with a volt meter.
if you want to be able to watch movies while you drive, you will want to pick up a PAC TR7 from audiooutfitters.com
yup. it electronically has a delay that simulates the footbrake/parking brake action needed to override the safety lockout. It does this basically by using the switched input lead that turns on the system, and the second input lead for the remote amp turn on lead. Its pretty cool, but a bit tricky to wire it up correctly.
"this wouldn't be difficult to test with a volt meter."
I know this would be a simple test however as I stated I'm in the process of making a wiring harness and a temp hookup would not be easy right now (alternator and battery are out of car) that's why I was asking if anyone just happened to know. I just didn't want to run another 2 wires to the front of the car if it wasn't necessary. As for the video bypass that's taken care of with an IC timer but thanks for your input. Bob
An IC timer is "intergrated chip" that acts as a timer. Basicly it breaks the emergency brake ground for a specific duration of time then reconnects it in this senario. The brake light input wire can be left connected to +12 volts ignition switched.
It's whats used in the PAC adapter which is nothing more than a digital programable timer with several I/O's (inputs & outputs). Bob
I didn't want to guess and be wrong, but I'd bet money that the power antenna lead only has power when the unit is in FM radio mode.
If the battery is out of the car a bench test is even easier.
Whats an IC timer?

Some of the power wires for the entire system (amp, nav, control box, ant. ect...) are hooked up but not all and I don't want any back feeding into the cars electrical system. With all the computers in todays cars it's not worth risking. Thank's for your input, Bob
