Stillsingle is one of the guys who did it in the brake light. I understand there is a good possibility of breaking the lens when cutting so plan on some extras. I used a "bullet" camera at http://www.securityideas.com/cylindercamera.html it doesn't reverse so it is a little different when somebody walks behind you on the driver side and the screen shows them on the right side. I really only use mine to see if there is something back there. Depth perception is poor anyway.
Thanks Mike, vrumvrum, you sure have a nice system there.
I might end up going with the license plate mount if I run into too many problems with cutting and wiring the brake light.
I have an extra brake light ordered just in case.
Anybody else know of any other sources for the miniature camera?
Jim, the IVA-D900 might reverse the image automatically since the input is specifically for a reverse camera. I will know by mid week and post to this thread the results. Securityideas.com had the lowest price I could find on the color camera other vendors were as much as $150 higher!!! I also asked about the optional wider angle lens and they said they could order it but the camera would no longer be weatherproof after installation. They also have really quick service I got mine the very next day. Bob
www.accel.com has several cameras instock. I currently have on in my third brake light. I split the barke light in two at the seam with a razor knife. Removed a couple of the LED's and drilled a hole. Start using a small bit and working your way up to the size you need. I used a unibit. I am not happy with the camera and am looking to replace it with another. Post up if you find something good.
Hey "gbvette", thanks!
Excellent pics and instructions!
You did one hell of job there!
It's guys like you and several others on here that gives us "less experienced" want to be's, confidense enough to attempt such an undertaking.
Please keep sharing the expertise, because I, and I'm sure many other members like me, sincerely appreciate it.
Jim, I just ordered this one: Its made by Accele as well. Reverse image and color. I like the little flange on it to trim out the opening. Mine is going in my license plate. I've got one there in the second G in GEORGIA  pretty stealth.
It will be here tomorrow, I'll post pics and a review when I get it installed.
