I did the big three and uprgraded all of my wiring. I still get a little blinking of my lights and if turned up the bass sounds a little compressed. So I was wondering would a cap be good for me ? An alt seems to be a little unnecessary for the amount of dimming/blinking and compression that I have. So would a cap help me ? What size ? I have about 1300 watts.
The compression I am talking about occurrs only when I crank the amp. It just basically means either the amp is running out of juice(doubtful) or it isn't getting enough power(more likely).
stock replacements are 110, so it's 105-110. and your system is pulling 90amps max... think about how much your car itself draws then your system on top of that, your alt isn't big enough.
You can try a cap...it is only 60 bucks for a 1 farad 20 volt cap from partsexpress...worth a try versus a very expensive(in comparison) alternator upgrade.

Yeah Waco, that's what I was thinking, a cap might be worth a try. A new alt isn't a sure shot. First you have to make sure the new alt puts out more than your current alt at idle, I hear not all high power ones do. Then you have to make sure it's a good quality alt that's a dirrect fit for your car. All of this at a price that will be less than the cost of the entire system you just put in the car. :D
you might recall I had the same problem with my Jimmy. The upgraded wiring and a 1 Farad cap has COMPETELY solved the dimming headlights.
PS I have no dimming in my C5 either and I think the 15 Farad cap helps there.
PSS Try knukonceptz for a cap, you will love it

I just priced out a custom 200 amp alternator for my C5. 1000.00 bucks or so from Stinger or directly from the manufacture here in Tampa. Pretty sweet unit...I should have it in by the end of the month if time permits. Anyone else find an alternator that will work properly in the C5?
The king of alternators, Ohio Generator, has one just for the C5. It is also their most expensive one. :banghead:
200 amps List price $900 You should be able to get it cheaper since you are a dealer.

Wow, that is almost as much as my whole system is worth ! I would at most be thinking more like $200-$300 for a new alt. If not I'll just have to cap it up or turn it down ! :D
Why are these high output alternators so expensive for a c5? The Jeep wranger comes with like a 136 amp one. I guess for power winches and that type of thing. That will be the day I spend $1000 for an alternator, its cheaper to just turn it down a notch.

I was answering his question. I agree with you guys, no way would I want to spend that much on an alt. EatRice has the $ though  :seeya
His vette is sweet, so is his home stereo set-up
