I finished up my install, and now I have to tune my system. I thought that installing it was the hard part, but once I got doing it, it wasn't so bad. Now I have to get it to sound how I want it to. I have an Alpine 7894 hu, and DEI Viper 6.5" components up front, and one of Mike76002 Stealth boxes with a 12" Infinity sub in back. It's all run through a PPI 4125 amp (4x125).
The head unit has low/high pass filters in it, and the amp has low/high pass filters in it, but I don't know what I'm doing, and would really appreciate some help. I've got the tweeters set at +6, and I'd like more. It's loud and clear, but there's got to be more highs available. There is a ton of bass, but the tweets aren't very bright. Are there any settings to brighten them up?
I listen to classic rock, Stone Temple Pilots, G'N'R, Pearl Jam, stuff like that, and just need more highs. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Another Newbie question for you guys..... (LuvmyC5)
Your Alpine headunit has limited Xover adjustment and I have not been able to find out what the slope is. The PPI amp has more adjustment than the Alpine but it only has 12db slope. Now if you find out that the Alpine has a higher slope use the xover in the Alpine if not use the xover in the PPI for the mids and highs. Your mids should have the DEI xovers anyways so those are going to be set for what the factory recommends. Unless you know what the DEI xovers are set at just set the HIGH PASS at 100hz or higher. The LOWPASS I would do through the head unit so you can play with it a little more from your driver seat. Turn the amp xover off. Then set your gains..and maybe adjust xovers again and you are good to go.
Tweeters....if you already have them 6db up then you should look into mounting them somewhere else. You can turn up the treble on the radio but you are already boosting those frequencys. I would try another tweeter location.

EatRice, Thanks for the help! I have found out that each persons ears and taste are different. Kale, you may have a more educated and/or sensitive ear for things than I do. My system sounds good, but it seems to be lacking in the upper range for my taste, and I thought that it could be fixed with the filters. I wish that I knew what some of you guys forgot. That's why I posted. Thanks again for the help. Is that a real TacoVette or a PhotoChop? If it's a chop, you did a good job!
