Finally finished up my audio install. All that it needs now is some tuning. Sounds good so far, but I'm hoping for quite a bit more once I get everything dialed in. One thing is for sure, I have no problem blasting bass. That wasnt what I was going for, but the glass top on my coupe transmits everything right outside the car, even at lower volumes. I don't like to be "that guy" with the ghetto blaster system that you can hear rolling through your neighborhood at 3am, but I don't see a way to avoid it. It's not like I can dynamat the glass top
System consists of the following:
DEH-7600MP HU
JL Audio XR-650CSi components (tweeters in the A pillars, mid-bass in the doors)
JL Audio Stealth Box
JL Audio 500/5 powering it all
Brown Bread everywhere on the inside of the car
Cable is 4ga power, with upgraded big 3, and 0ga common ground for the system and a cap that may be installed in the future
Which HU faceplate is that? By using that particular faceplate, it keeps the HU in the upper part of the bay, so that means you don't have to cut out or bend that metal plate that's behind the radio, correct?
I got that faceplate from VrumVrum, a forum member. Great guy to work with. He shipped me things without even charging me, telling me that I could pay him once they arrived.
I didnt have to bend anything BUT, the wires in the back made it a tight fit, and it did require a good bit of force to get it to 'click' in.
I used one roll which equates to 70sq ft. Some places in the back, I doubled up. And having a heat gun makes a HUGE difference in how easy it is to apply and how well it works. I've done three dymanat installs now, two without heat guns, and this last one with. WORLD of difference. Both in application and performance.
If I remember correctly the shipping weight was about 30 pounds ?
This includes a heavy cardboard tube and roller so the actual material would be in the 20# range
Yeah its definetly not "light" but unless you are a turbo hard core drag racer, you will already have 30 pounds of amp, heavier speakrs, the amp box, and a sub in there. Whats 20 more pounds? Just dont have that hamburger and fries before you go racing
Hehe, showoff Now, let me ask you, what in the WORLD do you need 3 subs for in a coupe?! I mean, its awesome, and obviously a show setup, but you gotta be able to rattle the fillings out of teeth from the next exit up the interstate!
Yes, it will be going to car shows and stereo compititions. She gets loud but doesn't sound as loud to me as one of my Talon's, it has two JL Audio 18W6s.
Nice work! I too installed brown bread, and included the leaded foam sheet as well. Can you tell us your total cost, just for the audio equipment? Did you do the install yourself? thx.
I did the install all myself. Its my third install, and I hate doing electical work, but its just too expensive to have an audio shop do it. So I force myself to save the bucks.
Everything I bought, I got on Ebay. To the best of my recollection, the price breakdown is as follows
7600MP -- 200$ (new)
XR-650CSi's -- 179$ (new)
JL Audio 500/5 -- 350$ (used)
JL Audio Stealth Box -- 380$ (used)
Brown Bread -- 140$
Misc (wires, connectors, fuses) -- 150$
Amp Box -- 25$ (carpet and spare plywood from my basement)
Face Plate and Speaker Mounts -- 120$ (from Vrum Vrum, forum member)
