New HU arrived - installation tips for early C3

HU Installation Tips for Early C3???
My new HU unit arrived this afternoon (yeah!)...it's a Sony CDX-F7700. I also ordered the DIN faceplate for an early C3 from American International http://www.aius.net/.
Before I get started, though, I was wondering what kind of tips others have for installing an aftermarket HU in an early C3 (1970).
1) What kind of tools did you use to cut the steel center gauge cluster for the new HU (e.g. Dremel, jigsaw, etc.)?
2) Did you need to "grind away" the ridges in the center gauge cluster where the original radio posts were located?
3) How did you secure your HU...did you have to use some additional aluminum straps?
4) Where did you connect the power leads (accessory and full-time power)?
5) If you have a faceplate, did you install the faceplate before or after inserting the HU?
