I've been desperately trying to find a way to replace my Bose system with a lcd screen of some sort. Eclipse and Kenwood have nice systems that only fit double din. I was wondering if I could just buy a C6 deck (when they're out) and replace mine.
Please reply with some thoughts as I was impressed by the screen in the C6.
Re: Thoughts on putting C6 deck in a C5? (djstylze)
Fitting the double will not be much of a problem. Several people here including myself have larger than dbl din radios in the dash. The problem you are going to have is the electronics that goes along with the dash unit. It is most likely going to have several places which it ties into the factory sensors along with external brains that are not in the C5. I would be willing to bet that not only will it be a PITA it will be much more costly than an aftermarket radio. But won't know for sure till the car hits the dealers and the parts guys have the paperwork on them.

Thank you for the response. I was told it was a huge install to put in a double din deck. I tried doing a search to see what people have been doing to install double dins. Can anyone point me to some posts?
To put the DBL din in the vette is a bit time consuming. The aluminum bracket behind the radio has to be cut out. Then the dash has to be cut, molded, and refinished. Then the mount for the dbl din has to be made so the radio attaches to the dash properly and is trimmed. It does take some time, materials, and skill to do but I would say 800 is on the steep side.

EatRice, I'm very interested in your setup. I'm guessing you modified your system to bolt on those brackets to the screen. My question is, what is a time consuming job. I'm thinking of showing your pictures to a shop to get a labor estimate. Hope you don't mind..

djstylze....it depends on how the shop does the install. I will tell you how I did mine. I first made the radio mount out of a piece of 1" aluminum. I machined the opening for the radio to pass through and then the pocket for the screen to sit in. Then I attached adjustable side brackets I machined out of 1X2 aluminum L bracket. I had the bracket powder coated black when finished. Then onto the factory trim bezel. I cut the cross bar between the radio and the AC controls and molded it smooth. Then opened up the ash tray opening and molded the ac to fit there. Primed, textured, and painted it factory black for a finished piece.
Other people have done the same thing without the aluminum. I wanted something different and very solid. I also am in the process of repainting the dash to a high gloss black and will post pics of that when finished. If you want I can email you pics of the radio mount outside of the car.
