IÂ’m looking to install a sub in my 86 Vert, any ideas on what I should go with. I prefer non-powered but would do powered if it works out better. I have a pioneer deck and two 200W 4-Channel • 240W Bridged pioneer amps(GM-6000F ). I'm looking to run the 4 front speakers off of one amp and run the 2 6X9 rear speakers and a sub off the other amp. Does that sound like a smart idea? Or should I bridge the one amp with the 6X9's only and install a powered sub? What would be the best sub idea for the back of a 86 convertible? I'm not looking to wake up the neighborhood I'm just looking for a little more bang (better sound) than the 6X9's.
Thanks! :flag
Since you have two 4 channel amps what I would do is use 4 channels for the front four speakers. I would use the other 4 channel amp to run the 6X9s and one good sub. Run channels 1&2 to the 2 6X9s and bridge channels 3&4 to a single 4 ohm sub. (which can also be a dual 2 ohm or a dual 8 ohm if the sub is a DVC) Good luck
Try the Infinity Kappa Perfect for $179. You might be able to find it even cheaper other than CarDomain. Spend the extra $ for a hi-quality box.
I have 3 in my vette
with that sub it is so simple.
You should be able to find one at a local stereo shop. Look for a 1 cubic foot enclosure made out of MDF. The MDF should be 3/4 or thicker. It should come with heavy duty speaker terminals and possibly be carpet covered. Expect to pay $50 but do NOT pay over $100 for a sealed single 12" box unless it is covered in gold
if you don't want to pay as much you can always run the mtx 4000 series these are good and only about $50 each. I had 2 10's and my friends tought I had 2 12's and it would set off alarms that was with a bazooka amp that would do 500rms and a custom box I built for them. But don't put an amp that has a higher rating
Another good quality are the alpines. But the most important thing is the box it must be good one and meet the subs space requirements. You may have the most expensive sub but if the box is crappy it won't sound like it should!
I just measured the storage space behind the seats and it doesn't look like there is much room when the top is down. I only have about 8 inches of height with the top down. The top takes up most of the space. Any convertible owners install a sub? what did you use? Whats my options?
Thanks! :flag
Thanks! I think those JL Audio's might work. Now I just have to find out where to buy them. Have you ever heard JL Audio? how do they sound? They look like quality subs and enclosures. I appreciate all your advice
Anybody have any pics. of subs in a convertible. Just looking for some custom box ideas. :flag
I have used JL subs since 1991. I had 9 of them up til a month ago when four 15" were stolen :mad . I still have five 18" JLs and they are serious subs
