I recently installed a new Alpine head unit, and hooked up the stock antenna connector to the Alpine with an adapter I purchased from Tune-Town. FM reception is great. but AM reception is very, very bad. By pulling the connection apart halfway, I was able to improve AM reception slightly, but obviously a half-plugged adapter is not the way to go. So, any ideas or suggestions? I'm wondering if I got a bad adapter; perhaps a swap would help fix things?
Heh heh, to be honest, I don't listen to AM hardly at all, either. The new Alpine has XM built in, so I now listen to that 99.9% of the time. But I would very much like to have adequate AM reception so I can listen to local college football games when the season comes around.
I have the same problem with my Kenwood. Absolutely terrible AM reception. FM is great though!
I just think aftermarket manufacturers don't spend a lot of time tweaking the AM tuners. They must figure nobody is going to use it or something. The only aftermarket head unit that I've seen that actually did a decent job was the Pioneer Supertuner III series.
