I just built my box for an Elemental E8a sub (in the jackwell), and I can tell you how it sounds in a week or so. Don't even think about putting anything larger than an 8 in there, or you will be nowhere near the box volume needed. Our car suck for locating a decent sub box. If you put a decent sized box in, there is no room to put the tops.

Ok, I finally got my car up and running (after 2 YEARS! 
). All I can say is buy the E8a and build a teenie weenie little sealed box and you'll be impressed as hell that all of that bass can come out of a woofer that small in a box that small. I have about 400 watts going to it (if I remember my amp specs right from over a year ago)....but that lil thing was shaking the items laying on the rear deck. Here is a pic. I can't be happier considering the space it isnt' taking up.
I had to eliminate the door hinge and throw some handles on it so I could pull the box out.
