Answered my own question.
The Bose speakers are powered - if they are replaced with another speaker you lose your power to the speakers by about 50% - NOT GOOD.

I replaced the rear speakers in my 02 vert with Infinity Reference 525i's. A real improvement over the stock Bose in both bass and treble. It has an adustable tweeter that you can aim. :flag
