I have been having this problem for almost a year now. I don’t want to install an after market. Here is my problem, when ever the car sets in the sun and the interior gets hot the base is gone. I turn on the radio and its flat, no base at all, after things cool down, it pops back in. I have replaced the radio and signal processor (under the dash near the gas pedal). I still have the same thing, is there anything I have missed that may be causing this????
Sounds like a thermal protect circuit is out of spec - the amp thinks its too hot and is turning off.
If you must stay with the stock units - look for a resistor that has become discolored - I'm sure that the resistor has changed value and is messing with the thermal shutdown circuit.
I haven't messed with the c5 bose amps, but if they are anything like the c4 amps - just scrap the whole thing and go aftermarket.
If the delco/bose people didn't have gm to keep them afloat that division would have died a much deserved death a LONG time ago. The speakers themselves are actually quite good, but the head unit is absolutely awful, as are the powered amps in the speaker assy's
The last thing I may try is replacing the speaker/amp assy. The part number is 10447355 if you know anyone with some used ones.
I'm not sure of the part number (I'll check when I get home tonight), but I think all C5's use the same door speaker assembly. At any rate, I have a pair I removed from my '98; if you pay for shipping, I can let you borrow mine to see if they fix your problem. If they do fix your problem then you can buy them from me; or if not, then just send them back.
