As one who listens to the engine rather than the stereo spend most of my time in Tech /Perf.
Stock radio in '87 has died and are upgrading to Cd /MP3 head unit to appease better half on long trips!
Assume factory Delco 10 ohms speaker are no good with aftermarket head unit?
What physical size speakers recommended for front / rear in stock location.Fronts are currently above dash , have seen pics of ones in door panel (poss later model) any benefits in this position?
Recommended wattage ratings for speakers.(Head unit 4 x 45W , no amp).Looking for nice clear sound , not excessive volume.
Suggestions appreciated.
Ok bud first I'm going to tell you that installing my stereo in my vette was the hardest car I've ever installed one in. But it is doable. I also need to know if your car had the Bose package because they had different size speakers and they had a built in amp which would require you to run all new wires for each speaker. But if you want good sound I would go with an Alpine CDA-9826. But as for speakers I'm pretty sure that yours are different being is I have the Bose system but I if you want quality you want Alpine components or Infinity components.
Was Bose on build sheet but appears whole system has been changed to std radio / tape unit sometime.Speakers are not Bose amp units just normal Delco 6 x 9 10 Ohm unit (rears , haven't pulled fronts yet) but wiring appears stock so assume I can use it and splice cables at new head unit
