Sure you can just build a box and put it in the trunk. If you are talking like an out of the way area. A few guys have done 8" woofers in the side compartments next to the large one.
I was actually hoping to find a place other than the trunk as I like the look of the partition. Could I put an 8" sub and 4" component system in each door? I do not want to have to do any major cutting to get things to fit.
Sure you can put an 8" in the door for a sub BUT unless you take a lot of time to fabricate an enclosure you will not have fantastic results for sub bass. That also depends alot on the kind of music you listen to. You will also run into a huge gap in frequencys between the 4 and the 8 or alot of distortion problems. What I would do is purchase a nice 3 way setup. Install it and listen to it. Maybe it will work for you if not you can add a sub and have a sweet system.
I wish the C5 had some nice aftermarket speaker systems that were designed specifically for this application and did not require any fabrication. Oh well.
8's in the doors iwll rattle like crazy unless you dynamat like crazy. I'd done door subs and you really have to commit to them or its not worth the effort.
You could however do two 8" subs in either small pocket in the back, or make a box on one side that used one of the pockets - it would help to maintain as much trunck as possible, and would retain the center well.I bet there is .4cuft or so in those little pockets to play with.
