Ive been wanting to have XM installed in my C5 ever since I got it because I had a Sky-Fi system in my Z28 that I had before the Vette. I have been looking at the new Roady2, but I heard that the sound quality via the built in FM Modulator isn't good at all. How does the sound quality of the Roady2 using a tape deck adapter compare to that of a typical FM modulator like I had to use in my Z28? I have the factory radio in my 98 C5 with tape deck and disk changer.
I bought the PIE adapter originally, installed it, and it did not work! I was pressed for time, and had surpassed the time frame to send back the PIE unit, so I forged ahead on my own.
In truth, you can install any line-level audio system with two very simple devices - One 4 pole double throw relay, and one single pole toggle switch. For less than 10 dollars, you can keep the CD changer AND install any MP3 or audio "line-out" device! and listen to either device you desire!
I used the single pole switch to operate a relay that toggled the audio line output from the CD unit to the audio line output from my 20GB Jukebox. Connections were really (really) simple if you're good with a soldering iron.
The only thing the PIE device really does is provide a data signal to the stock head unit once the CD changer is removed...THAT's IT! IF you like this solution, email me and I'll send the wiring diagrams and parts list.
...and if you're wondering, the head unit does show that the CD changer is playing CDs, but I just took a 10 hour road trip, and probably only noticed a CD change in the head unit display twice. Who cares...

I've got the modulator in my Vette, and tape deck adaptor for the van while traveling. Sound quality of the modulator sucks, sound quality of the cassette adaptor really really sucks.
By "sucks" I mean muddy, with no midrange clarity or bounce. I'd still pick it over the cassette adaptor, which is even muddier, plus has a scratchy interference sound (may be partially my Delco cassette player). Direct connect is the only way, and what I have planned in the near future....
