IVA-D901 removable faceplate

Even with the faceplate off the unit still has an Alpine logo, a rotary ****, many buttons, and it is obvious that it is a monitor. I was very disappointed in this because the removable faceplates for the normal CD decks remove everything off the front of the CD decks.
Is the "removable face" of the IVA-D901 actually going to prevent theft? A thief could just buy a new faceplate from Alpine. Considering how small it is I cannot see the faceplate being too expensive.

The IVA-D900 is the same way, just a small part of the face plate is removable about the size of a thing of chapstick. I think the idea is that the unit will not work w/out this piece and is therefore not worth stealing. Even if the whole faceplace came off, you still know it is an aftermarket stereo... but at least you don't know what brand it is.
