Where should/would a vert owner mount the XM and GPS ant's?
Also do you need to purchase any additional mapping disk? In reading the web site I am unable to figure out if one "needs" the extra $380.00 mapping disk for basic gps use.
Can you use the DVD while the engine is running or does some sort of safety over ride kick in and shut it off?
The XM and GPS antenna's can be mounted in the rear bumper, on the dash, or even under the carpet in the rear hatch. Put a piece of metal under each antenna..the GPS antenna comes with one.
I have an AVIC N1 and it came with the map disk. It works well. You have to have the nav disc in the unit to use the navigation though..sort of annoying. To make the unit work while driving you will need to ground the green wire...E Brake wire. Nothing to it. Overall it is a great product for the money.
Does the nav disk come with it? I saw mention at a pioneer site of 2 disk for sale for 380.00 each?
I am getting one installed friday.
Do you have the voice commander?
Also do you need anything extra to get the GPS unit to give you verbal directions?
I wonder if the installer will be willing to ground the DVD player so a passenger can watch while moving?
I put my antenna inside the rear bumper. Works great. I was going to have my Alpine IVA-300 installed at Ultimate, and they would not deviate from the instructions regarding the safety issues with the DVD player. So I ended up installing it myself, and with Eatrice's knowledge he led me to the correct part to get my DVD to play while driving.
I have to call my installer Monday AM. I have doubts also if they will install in such a fashion that I can have a passenger watch a dvd while I drive.
I have done alot of research on this Pioneer unit and submit the following product details about your unit. It clearly states that you do not need the GPS cd in the tray to use the nav system. I think I read where it has two disk, one east and one west coast and you simply load the disk and it has a large hard drive to store the information on it, then you take out the disk and can play your cd or dvd. Am I reading this wrong?
Nicknamed the "All-in-1", the revolutionary AVIC-N1 includes Navigation, DVD Video, Multimedia Audio/Video and even Vehicle Dynamics capabilities.* The motorized, 6.5" touch screen display puts everything at your fingertips.* Some of the key highlights include:
Navigation:* Looking for a new place to eat - drink - dance - shop?* Just run a quick search, find what you want, and the AVIC-N1 will take you there.* The AVIC-N1's comprehensive database includes 12 million locations, complete with addresses and phone numbers - but don't worry, its extremely easy to use, thanks to Pioneer's exclusive new search methods.* Once you find a destination, the industry-first Memory Navigation function*automatically stores your route to the internal memory, allowing you to eject the navigation map disc to play a CD or DVD while you navigate the streets.
EatRice,
if this is not true please let me know. I was going to buy one very soon.
Jim...alot of that is new to me. I have owned an AVIC N1 since they were released. I also played with one before it was released. Everytime it was expalined to me..the disc had to be in the player. When I used mine the disc was in the player. BUT I have very very little use of mine...proably 2 hours. I put it right before my new motor and have not had the car on the road in three months. Yes the navigation is easy to use and you can locate points of interest..never saw any phone numbers though. But I did not look either. I do know that Pioneer released new nav discs shortly after the N1 was released. I have them but have not used them. I did have an AVIC 80 nav unit in my old truck ( I used it almost daily) I loved it and the N1 is very simular. My understanding is the N1 can not store a very large map and must go back to the disc often. That is how Pioneer expalined to me last March. It is a worth while piece and I do recommend them. I was going to add a cd changer to mine so I could keep the nav disk in there and listen to music. But I am most likely going to take mine out and put back in the AVIC 80 and AVHP 7500 DVD.
I called the install shop. They said if I would/could show them how to wire t so the DVD player would work while the car is moving, that they would do it that way, but I would need to sign a waiver stating that I CHANGED the way it is hooked up. I have no problem doing that.
So what do I need to tell the installer to do, to make the DVD player work while the car is moving.
