My son has a spare sub I thought about trying to add to the Vette. I really hadn't considered it, but since it's just laying around I figure why not give it a shot? My question is, I have a U.S. Acoustics 4 channel amp. Would it be possible to wire the sub to the rear channel in with the 2 rear speakers keeping them on the separate channels but not the sub? Or will that mess everything up?
Basically if like this:
Channel 3 + has rr + and sub +
Channel 3 - has rr -
Channel 4 + has lr +
Channel 4 - has lr - and sub -
The amp does have pre-amp outs if I decide to go permanent but like I said, this would just be for now. (if possible)
I donno if you can run this amp in 5 channel mode. That's asking a lot from it.
I bet tho it would run in 3 channel mode... remove the rear speakers (you really don't need'm) and run the sub.
I know it'll run in a 3 channel mode, but if I was going to do that, I might as well just shut off the highs to the rear and use the 6x9's I have as the woofers. I've already done it that when setting it up once, and it really kicks. The problem is, I like the fill they add when on full.
you see, putting in a real sub, i.e. the sub you have adopted from your son, will blind any amount of highs coming from the rear.
the front stage would benefit from some 6.5" componants. They will bring the bass forward, too. Neat trick, really.
It requires a custom install, but it's worth it.
Everything I have now has been custom installed so that's not a problem. (by me) I don't think I'll get 6.5"s up there and still stay behind the stock speaker grill. (which I've done so far) If I get serious, I'll just get a one channel amp and tie into my current one since it has the outputs for it. Then I'll just use that to power a sub. It's not that I'm unhappy with the sound now, it was more trying to add a free sub if possible without damaging what's in there now.
You Can Also Put The 2 Rear Speakers On The Front 2 Channel The Amp Should Run 2 Ohm Stereo But You Will Loos The Fader Option And You Could Only Raise The Gain To The Level That The 5 1/4 Can Handle Then The 2 Rear Chanel Can Be Bridged For Twice The Power For The Sub
