Here's the install I did on my 1984 corvette coupe. All of my buddies were entering their cars in the "Thunder Alley" show, and I didn't want to be left out, so I had a week to build this box and install the sub and amp. It's a 10" Alpine Type R powered by a 350 watt Alpine Monoblock (hidden in the storage compartment. I wanted something that was fast, light, compact and still allowed storage of the top. The box weighs 25lbs with sub (the sub is 14 alone). I still might go to a pair of 8's and give it the factory look, or I may cover this box in carmine red vinyl to match my interior better. It's in duplicolor anodized red in the picture.
Man I love the way Alpine Type R's sound! I have one 12" Alpine R sub in my 86 C4 and it makes me deaf. I was wondering though, how did you learn your fiberglassing skills? Was it thru one of those fiberglass teaching DVDs or something similar? or just glass and try method?
Id love to do a fiber box for my alpine 12, right now its in one of those cheap, wallmart 12" roadmaster boxes that ya get for $30. Surprisingly though, it sounds awesome, compaired to my Kicker Solobaric S10L7 dual voice coil I had in the hatchback before. I am powering the speaker with a monoblock Bazooka MA1500 (1 x 500 watts at 2 ohm, which it is wired) and I really like the Bazooka amplifier. It has hearty wire terminals (not those screw wire terminals where you loose the screw). And for $50 brand new off of ebay, it actually pushes what it says, and sounds great with my Alpine R.
But, id love to do a fiber box, so as I can put in my top still. I still love for my vette to go topless in the summer! (even if it is a pain in the *** to get off)
noelc5: It was 6 days actually, and I had to strip off some paint that didn't dry properly too, for the record, lol. Actually, after everyone got over the fact that I brought a vette with straight pipes to an audio show made up mostly of imports, it went pretty good. Lots of people commented on how rare it is to see a vette with a system in it. Up here people just settle for what Dr. Bose gave em.
Snoopdan: I just learned my fibreglassing skills from the side of a bondo fibreglass kit box . I just build lots of stuff with fibreglass and keep practicing at it. It's not that hard, just takes time.
Vindogg003: I'm probably going to go with a matching carmine red vinyl covering to make it look a little more factory. I took it out of the car on thursday to do something with it, so as of now that's the route I'll take.
I wouldn't say filthy. It looks bad in the pic, but its just raked 18 different directions. That and it has some advertisement paper in it. It was new about 2 months before that pic and had hardly been driven. It looks much better in person.

Oh, I was totally kidding. It really looks great, especially for an 84.
