found this key pad starter kill which would be cool to put in the cup holder next to the gear shift and then have a start button rigth next to it like in the movie the transporter. heres the link. im just wandering if there is a way around the chip in our keys and how hard it would be to put in a push button starter
I had a friend that had that in his car, it's not very high quality and is a pain in the @$$.
A better idea would be to use a proximity sensor and matching key fob. just keep it on your keychain and when you get in your car it will detect the key fob and close a relay that will then let you press your start button.
I'm sure there are a lot of security issues involved with this (haven't really thought the whole idea through yet since i just thought this up), dont know how hard it would be to hack but I think the concept of this is much cooler.

The "chip" in the key is actually just a resistor and is a piece of cake to bypass. All you have to do is measure the resistance of the key, get a like resistor, and plug that into the wiring harness in the dashboard instead of a pigtail that comes out of the lock cylinder.
Kale is correct. The VATS has to be bypassed to remote start a GM vechicle. There are even VATS modules made by DEI but jumping a resistor across the wires is the easiest way. The wires you need are two small white wires in an orange tube under the dash coming from the key. Very easy to find.
The proximity sensor key fob idea...won't work. A proximity sensor has no ability to be coded to another piece of electornics. You would need a transponder type of system. Something that can sned and recieve coded signals. I have not seen anything like that but their could be something out there.
As for the key pads. As long as it is securely affixed to the dash you should have no problem with it. I have installed many of them with success. If you want to bypass using the key you will also need a latching relay to engage the ignition system. The key first powers the ignition system and then the starter system. Once the car starts the starter no longer has power and the key allows the iginition system to retain power and the accessory system also. Accessories do not power with ignition cycle. It is not impossible...really would be easy to do. Now you got me thinking...lol. Let me know if you have any other questions. I can put together a parts list and wire diagram.

Yes a proximity sensor wouldnt work, I cant think of the name of the device that i'm thinking of. but i believe it's what they are using in the new vette. when you get close to the car it detects the fob that you have in your pocket and unlocks your door. I've seen these units before but they werent vehicle specific. actually i believe i even saw a unit that worked on the same principle but it unlocked the door locks to your house. It would be something that you'd have to do a little r&d on but I dont think it would be impossible.
well on my 94 it has a proximity unlock factory. if the alarm is set when i walk away it wont start unless it disarmed right? so would i just have to get a push button start and disarm the vats.
