Default Early C4 Door Panel Speaker Pods

Does anyone know of any manufactures of prefab door speaker pods for 84-89 vette door panels? Something that would cover up the original speaker mounting is what im looking for. Nothing fancy, just functional. I tried to look around the web for a couple of hours with no real success. I found a ton of do it yourself pod instructions, which, yeah, ive done door panels before, but im trying not to have to completely redesign the door panel, just add to the original one without having to complely fab something out of nothing. Again, im thinking something like an ABS plate that you can cut out holes on for 5 1/4" or 6" drivers. I tried q-logic but they were not any help.
Any suggestions on a manufactuer?

Thanks alot

just use MDF and cut a hole in it, and mount it to the door. ten minute job..

ya, I KNOW i can do that, but im looking for something that probably isnt in existance... Im looking for a ABS plastic made plate, trapazodial or square in design, with a speaker hole in the middle and mounting holes in various places around the inside of the plate. With a fabric grille cover that mounts into the ABS plastic ring (sort of like a home speaker front fabric cover does.) and is retained by velcro or plastic nut like home speakers use to hold on their grille. Am I just asking too much?

If I can think it up, and its that cheap and easy to manufacture, then surely someone smarter than I, or someone with plastic molding resources could produce this item already.

I was thinking of making something once, and might still. It can't be that hard, and lots of guys just don't want to do it. By spring I may just have something rigged up. I'm working on a few C4 projects right now, along with my old Chev truck.

I was thinking about my problem some more, since no one else was chimeing in with a suggestion. What if, I used some soft, mallable dough (similar to green sand in pot metal forming) that I could take the ends of picture frames or the picture frame wood and imprint the contours of it into the sand/clay. That way I can make a nice impression with wood pieces I can redially purchase at somewhere like hobby lobby picture framing section. Imprint the form, creating a negative form into the material - then cleaning up the newly formed trenches then spraying Pam cooking spray for a mold release. Then pour in either mixed bondo or plastic resin into the form. Let dry - then release...it should come out as simaliar as to an ABS formed door panel speaker enclosure one would purchase. I dont THINK im off base on this too much. But again, I would really rather purchase something already premade... I mean, come on, I cant believe a company in the business of forming plastic interior items such as, well like Scorche doesnt make something like this already, since they pop out ABS forms for head unit installs all day. Am I just asking too much?? I now remember that MTX used to sell plastic forms like the ones I am describing in Crutchfield about 5 or 6 years ago, but they apparently are no longer doing such. Basically im looking for what Q-Logic makes as universal mount kick panels, but for door mounts instead. Again, i dont think im asking too much.....

If you blueprint it yourself, say, in a CAD program, a local plastic shop should be able to make them for you.

Thanks for the suggestion, it never occoured to me to do that. Even though I live in a super small town, im about 30 miles from Louisville, KY. And I did ACAD for a few years for a engineering firm, so I could actually do that OK. BUT - I just want to buy a prefab. Im recovering from hip relplacement surgery right now, so its hard for me to do any major project. I have had both hips replaced in the last 4 months, so I havent got really any projects done on my vette, since I bought it while I was in the hospital. TOTALLY SUX.

Hey Snoop, I've been searching for about a week now for the SAME exact thing you are looking for, a kickpanel speaker pod for both my doors, something that sorta points the speakers at an angle for better clearity....I was looking at the universal pods
http://www.cardomain.com/shop/list.p...art=81&show=20
check that out, whats your best opinion on that part--I'm considering it---BUT if someone is planning on making some custom made ones for there car and they look good--count me in, I'll buy a set. I have dynaudio's....

Well ive looked at qlogic stuff before, and its way too ugly for my taste. I would of liked it if qlogic just made a single pod mount for a door, not a kickpanel...they probably would of sold more of them,too.. Becuse, I like the ABS plastic mounting idea, but a kickpanel isnt very good for speaker imaging. Its like throwing music at your feet. Kinda pointless, and screws up any kind of soundstaging. SOO, if i cant find anything soon, i'll just have to make my own....When I do, i'll post pics, and see if you are interested in me making you some as well. Because, once I make the molds, the hard part next is just taking the completed plastic peice and sanding/finishing it for your car's interior. So if i make some, it will be a few sets to sell off....and i'll sell them pretty cheap...im not looking to make a buck at all, just maybe re-coup at least some of the cost of production. I dont mind the labor involved, but materials can get pricey after a while (especially if I screw up a couple of times, of which im sure i will do) Ive done door panels before, but its been mostly with upholstry and wood fabrication....so im not quite a newbie at it.

I STILL WISH I could just buy a door mount to cover up my stock 86 original square speaker pod. OH WELL, guess it isnt going to happen.
