Default Multiple speakers on one channel output

I was going to buy a Panasonic CQ-C9800U that has 60 watts rms per channel until I read the installation instructions that state not to wire two speakers in parallel for one channel. The digital amps are rated for 4-8 ohms so two 8 ohm speakers in parallel would be 4 ohms. I asked the Panasonic support group the purpose of this caution and they had various answers such as the wires couldn't handle the extra load or that there would be more distortion then said that they are only supposed to answer questions from installers. I tried wiring two 8 ohm speakers to a Sony last night and it made no difference compared to one 4 ohm speaker. Is there anything wrong in wiring two 8 ohm drivers in parallel to one output channel?

Boy are they full of chit. A amp cannot tell the difference between 2 8 ohm speakers in parrallel or a single 4 ohm speaker.
Not to cut you amp down, but Panasonic ranks near the bottom of choices I would make for a amp. Even still, 4 ohms is 4 ohms.

Thats totally true about the wires. Unless you upgrade to solid gold wiring to your speakers, you will have massive amounts of distortion. Any good panasonic installer should know this, So why are you bothering them at their tech support??

They're obviously morons. Dont buy their product if their own people cant support it. I can understand one moron behind the wheel at the tech support office, but it sounds like you talked to multiple people.

This is a quote from Panasonic's litature about this head unit from Crutchfield ( a reputable company that NEVER lies about its products , hah, yeah... ) :

Panasonic's CQ-C9800U CD/MP3/WMA receiver, with its industry-leading 60 watt RMS x 4 internal amplifier, cranks out crystal-clear highs, thunderous bass, and true-to-life sound at all volume levels — leaving its competition in the dust. Combine that kind of muscle with "start-to-finish" digital processing, and you've got a receiver capable of unparalleled audio performance!

It's all thanks to the Performance Digital amp chip, which is capable of producing incredible power while generating minimal heat. The CQ-C9800U is the first receiver on the market to incorporate this technology, delivering dynamic sound that reproduces your tunes exactly as the artists intended.

Uh huh....yeah....right. I guess people really believe that marketing crap.

It does look like a spify head unit in general, but not worth the $499 MSRP off the Panasonic site. I wouldnt pay over 150 for one, there are just so many other head units in the 500 dollar price range that are way more cooler.

hope I helpped

Be nice guys, though I'll run down the street naked if that HU puts out a true 60 watts X 4 at 20-20KHz, 12 volts, and less than .1%THD.

the sad thing is....they do
