Default pre-amp output questions and more

I bought a Monster Cable interlink 401 XLN 15ft (5m) cable

Is there room in the dash of an '87 to use "straight" rca plugs, or are 90 degree angle plugs required?

What is the best route to run it to the rear or the cargo area?

Also I see that amps have screw terminals for the speaker output wires, and that 16 gauge wire is mentioned as speaker lead.
Why?
The speakers have little spade connectors, and the leads from the connectors to the magnets are definately not 16 gauge.

What is a good performing, reliable amp that puts out 4x60rms? (inexpensive)

Thanks.

Yes. I have an 86 coupe and I run a pretty meaty space hogging DEH45-DH head unit with RCA outputs on the back with a 20 or so foot Monster cable RCA wires. No problems with fitting.

Under the rails and to under the carpet in the rear of the car. Real simple, just pull up everything that looks like it will get in your way of wiring.

I never understood why amplifier companys still use screw terminals for their speaker outputs. They are inferior IMO and really should have allen lug locks, like 50% of quality amplifiers do. I swear, I always loose one of those damn screws at one point of my amplifiers' life. 16 guage wire to subwoofers is the smallest recomended size wire for a couple of reasons. Upgradeability to a subwoofer that will benefit from large wiring, two, if you are going to have to run wire, why not make it the good stuff, since really the price isnt much more that lesser wireing gauge sizes, and three, maybe one day you will have a subwoofer that would appreciate appropriate size wiring to it.

If your talking about the mids and highs, your right. You dont NEED to use wiring that large, but if you are going to go thru the hassle of running new wires, why not make it the good stuff? If you want to use the existing car wiring, by all means do. Nothing wrong with that.

Tons. Inexpensive doesnt mean anything to us. Tell us what your price range is. I can think of a couple of amps that you could by off of ebay for $50 that would absolutely rock for mids/highs, and no one would laugh at the brand.

Hope I helped

I have acquired a DEH-P77DH, Infinity Reference 6002i(doors) Infinity Reference 9603i(rears) speakers, along with the Monster cable so far. still need the amp and $100 with shipping would be the most I would think of paying, more like $75 shipped to fit my budget.

I am going to go to Home Depot and buy some 18 ga speaker wire since the gauge size is sufficient.

Thanks for the help.

Get at least 16 gauge speaker wire. I prefer using 14 gauge.

The higher quality audio wire isn't any more expensive, but it will hold up better over time, have less resistence, which will help the amp.

Hey bogus, can I wire my aftermarket catalytic converters on with 16 guage wire too? Or should I hollow them out and hold them on with 22 guage wire??
