speaker sizes and setup c5 coupe
I have a 03 c5 coupe, with the Bose system. I know there is a small speaker and a larger woofer in the door right? the small ones are 3.5" and the large one 8"?
If you have replaced them , did you put in just a sub for the 8"? or did you go with something like a 6.5" 3way? wondering what sounds the best/balanced.
Has anyone found a stereo that fits to the same size as the factory? I really don't care for the smaller units with kits. I called crutchfield and they have nothing.
If i keep the orginal head unit and replace the stock bose speakers, will I have to use an amp to get more power because of the ohm situation?
and lastly, if i do replace the head unit, will i lose the HUD or anything else?
Thanks..
1) The best solution to the front speaker issue is a nice pair of 3-ways. 6.5"/4"/1" - CDT makes a great set.
2) Use a nice single 10" or 12" sub in the hole in the back.
3) Dash? There are kits. Metra makes one, forum member vrumvrum has something.
4) Replace the entire mess, dude. Don't even bother.
5) HUD? Don't think it will be effected. This is something I am unsure about.
You shouldn't loos your turn signals though unless you forget to take the negative wire off your battery and blow out something in your system? Still haven't figured out what I have done. Go ahead and replace everything though, it saves you money in the long run, and it is easier than trying to connect your aftermarket HU to the Bose system. And it will sound so much better you will however need to run a switched power souce from the passenger side footwell to power the radio use 22 it will be empty when you look at the fuse panel
other than that your good also you could use factory wiring after you remove the factory radio (only if you remove the factory radio)if you keep it and use the factory wiring the bcm would send a signal only above whatever the factory crossover was set at
just do like above stated (previous post)
if you run 3 ways you need bigger wire than factory anyways 3 ways arent cheap but well worth it (i have cdts )
now if only i could finish that sub box of mine

what are CDTS? Yes im a noob. = ) Did you also keep the small speaker in the door or just disable it then? When u said i needed a bigger wire are u referring to the speaker cable? Meaning i will have to re-run another speaker cable though the system?
Did any of u guys run a seperate amp for the 3ways?

Replace the head unit and everything else. I played the half way game and was real unhappy. Finally replaced it all and sounds great. You can get a list of parts at: my website

you should use a seperate amp, the 3 ways will require more power and cleaner signal you'll also get a much cleaner signal.
cdt is a brand of speaker, i just purchased a set of two ways (6.5" & 1") from www.thezeb.com for $150, great price if you can't spend the $350+ for 3 ways
He meant a thicker gauge wire
they are pretty much high end audio but not the best
they are easy to setup and the crossover network is very easy to work with i have my 3 ways set completely flat on my radio and didnt have to adjust anything the bass is great mids punchy andd warm and the highs are perfect for most songs (ive yet to have a song where the highs were too bright or tinny)
yes scott fx is right
i mean bigger diameter (guage) wire
my components with the crossover i have handle 200 watts rms
so i used 14 guage wire to the crossover and 16 guage from there to the speakers remember the more power you have and the longer you have to run wires the thicker you will need
