Yesterday I purchased a Clarion ProAudio DXZ845MC
CD/MP3/WMA receiver with Music Catcher because they were on clearance for $199 and because it matches the dash. I also bought two 4'' Infinity Ref. speakers for the front and two 6.5" Infinity Ref. for the rear that I plan on installing in the Bose modules. Will this sound better than the Bose that is currently in my 93? Or am I wasting my time?
Thanks but I am not convinced it will sound better than the Bose. In your opinion will 4 Infinity speakers powered by a Clarion deck sound better than the Bose system.

IMHO, with only 18W RMS from the Clarion, you will be disappointed with the results. At a minimum, you need to add a separate two-channel amp to power one set of speakers; better, a four channel to power all four; best, add a subwoofer with a separate amp or bridge one channel of the four-channel to power the sub.
In my old Honda, I had a "budget based" car stereo progression that started with one Sony HU and one set of MB Quart two-ways. The Sony had similar power specs to your Clarion. It sounded OK at low volumes, but clipped when I turned it up much. Once I added an amp, the difference was remarkable, at all sound levels.
It will sound better than the Bose, I have no doubts. The thing to get even much better sound is to have a sub and sub amp too.
Well, even if you only have the original bose speakers still installed as well as the bose HU, a subwoofer would make that bose system sound 100% better.
I agree, without an amp you will be disappointed if you expect greatness out of the amplifier output of that clarion head unit. Its a good HU if you put in a car like a honda, which runs quiet and you dont have as much road/engine/tranny/exhaust noise. Remember, in a vette, your not only licking the back of the engine while your sitting in it, you are straddling the tranny as well....Its hard to get over that inherit noise level. Even if you do dynamat or brownbread the interior, you'd still be happier with an amplifier on those 2-ways.
I was stunned how well my Pioneer DEH45 made my original bose door speakers sound. Of course, it has a 45x4 amp in it, which really actually puts out that rating. I dont believe that model clarion has as much umph comming in at 18x4 RMS and 53 peak. It may be asking a bit too much of that head unit. A small amplifier would sure make your Infinitys shine!
