Who hear has the most die-casts?
Who has the most? I know it's not me. Not counting the 1/43 I think I have around 120 1/18.
Oops, I guess I don't know how to spell "here" in the title.

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (C5North)
I only have a half-dozen 1:18th cars... most of mine are 'high end'.. Lot's of Franklin and Dansbury Mint cars (and every Harley made to date), plus a number of Creative Masters cars (they're the nicest I've seen). Lots of odds and ends, many rare cars. I recently sold a FM Aztec Gold C5 ragtop for $700... it was one of 750 made.
I have over $4K in 'em - not real proud of the fact, but that's the way it goes... big-boy toys...
I'm waiting for either FM or Danbury to make a '96 Grand Sport - rumor has it that one's on the way... Yay!!! :yesnod:

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (GSDreamin')
I have roughly 300+ die cast 90% of which are in the 1/18th scale.
I started collecting ertl cars which at the time was all that you could
Get in 1/18th scale. I since then moved up to “high end” die cast in
1/18th and larger sizes. The biggest car in my collection would be my
AUTO art Signature Series Mercedes CLK GT-R that is 1/12th scale
And weighs nearly 10 pounds. Sorry to step on toes but FM and DM
Do not make a die cast that can compare to the offerings from Exoto,
Carousel-1, AUTOart and Tamiya.
Some of my high ends in 1/18th scale are as follows, Exoto Grand Sport
Coupe, Exoto Ferrari 641/2, Exoto Porsche 934RSR,Carousel-1 L88
1968 Rebel Racer and a few others. I used to go for sheer numbers but
When you realize you can’t have them all you change your strategy to
“Buy the best” and that is basically what I have been doing. I have long
Since ran out of space and I now have so many cars again that this is
Facilitating the need to build another case to store them in. I am lying
Off the buying for a bit. One last thing, GSDreamin I am sorry if you
Do not agree with me but that FM Aztek C5 is a crude offering which
IMHO is not worth $30.00 let alone $700.00 but as P.T Barnum once
Said “A sucker is born every minute” and with that I end this post.

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (LS1-Corvette00)
I have to agree with Brett. I started out just buying Corvettes, thinking no diecast was better than another. I've since realized that there is a tremendous range in quality and I save my money for ones I'm proud to display. The Maistos and Bburagos I first bought are relagated to hidden corners of my house. I have roughly 30 cars (the only non-Vette a Chicago PD Caprice). I now buy strictly Auto Art and UT (have all 5 C5-Rs). While I've admired the Exotos at shows, I still haven't pulled the trigger on one. I figure if I buy one that will only be the beginning. I also have two of the Solido 1:12 scale '58s. One of the first models I bought and I still think they're great, I hope AutoArt adds a Corvette to their 1:12 series. The FM/DM are way overpriced and overrated in my book.

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (Illini Steve)
I have 57. Both 1 /18 and 1/24 scale models. Like many of us I have become much more discerning about which models I will purchase. Many of my early choices I now consider suitable for target practice. I have quiet a few FM and DM models (yes I know they are overpriced but they are still way less than full scale) and some of them are outstanding. I also have quite a few Exoto Racing Legends models which just keep getting better with each new issue. I really like the models by AutoArt, Kyosho, UT and Minichamps (very nice for the money). I think that all the model makers are getting better. I swore that I would never buy another Maisto but their Audi R8 is quite nice.

I have 549, 1/25 scale dealer promos and kits on display in two rooms. That does not count any other scale that I have displayed. Also not counted, are unbuilt kits and many boxes of 1/64 scale. I have 60 Corvette dealer promos from 1953 to 2000. :chevy

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (Tom/99)
I only collect Corvettes.
I don't want to count them............I've been collecting them since late 60's
I have so many that I now store them in large 80 qt. size plastic tubs w/lids. Just filled #6
But I don't like to get in that game of I have more then you do. :boxing
I just love collecting them and only keep less then 100 on display.

I agree with your opinion on FM and DM diecasts; IMHO they rank in the 'middle' as far as quality goes - certainly no where near the top; Exoto and Creative Masters prove that. I do believe they're worth more than $30, but not anywhere near what they're bringing on the secondary market - it's a collector's choice to either pay the asking price or not... I had a collector who agreed to pay.
I actually do like FM's Harley-Davidsons; they're about the best quality diecast motorcycles I've seen to date. Their cars leave a lot to be desired, but as long as they're the only ones make certain collectible cars ('63 Z06, '98 Pace Car, etc), then I'll keep buyin' 'em... selectively...
No foul.

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (C5North)
GSDreamin,
Right on brother! I would have sold it for 7 bills too (who wouldn't?)
Would I pay that for it? Shaaa
Your right though, FM does produce the best in motorcycles. Maisto
and even Hot Wheels have made some nice Harleys which I have
but FM does produce the best in the cycle category.
Exoto is mind boggling though, It's not just the detail in an Exoto
offering that makes it so dersireable to me.. Lots of people equate
girth or heft with quality. In the case of the Action C5-R's this is not
true. But Exoto can turn around and produce a die cast that weighs
as much as an Action C5-R yet has the detail of a hand built plastic
model kit in the hands of a professional. The owner of Exoto is a
Mr. Tony Keussan and he's very outspoken about his product, even
down right rude at times. But one thing he says I agree with 100%
and that is: "Anyone can build a 2 foot model, it's when you get up
close and it still looks and feels like the real thing that you know you
have a museum quality replica and not a toy"

Re: Who hear has the most die-casts? (LS1-Corvette00)
Exoto has some very finely executed models but their research is :bs .
Specifically, Mr. Keussan's "experts" made some plausable, but inaccurate versions of Grand Sport #002 which, as some of you know, lives here in Cincinnati.
During the disassembly and examination phase of its recently completed restoration, #002 was found to be the least modified and most original (as it left GM) of the Grand Sports. It now has what may be the most complete documentation library of any of the five.
Under detailed examination, the Exoto series is a "composite" of details from all five cars.
Oh..and we DID offer help and details before the fact but were dismissed as not knowing what we were talking about.
It's a real shame, too. Completely accurate models of 002, and probably the others, could be made with very little additional effort.
IMNSHO, they are priced at least twice what they're worth.

I have 72 Vette diecasts, and about 400 others. Most are 1/18th, but I also have a butt-load of 1/24th (NASCAR), and about 5 1/10th scale. I started about 4 years ago.
