Default Any SR2 Models?

I've been wondering if anoyne ever made a quality model - especially a die-cast - of the Corvette Sr2? I know Hot Wheels did, but I'd really like to find a nice version in the quality and size of, Say Autoart or even Danbury or Franklin Mint. Those would be 1:18 or 1:24, respectively.

I don't think any manufacturer has offered one, but I thought if anyone knoew they would be on this forum. Seems like about the only Corvette model that's never been replicated in scale.

I had posed this same question a couple of months ago. There is a seller on E-Bay that is selling Jim Beam Decanter 1956 SR-2 Corvettes. I got mine about a month ago. The seller has red or blue cars. I don't know if any are still available. These were a limited run of 500 made in conjunction with a Jim Beam Decanter Collector conference. They are pretty nice. They are porcelain and about 1/12 scale. Mine was around $70.

Thank you. Jim Beam decanters are collectible in their own right and it's interesting they chose the SR2 as the model for that decanter. Did they do other Corvettes as well? Interesting idea.

Still, I'd prefer to keep my collection to 1/24 and 1/18 and, if I want a die-cast SR2, perhaps 1/64. Even 1/43 for that matter.

So, given that the JB oferring was available in 2 colors, which one is correct do you suppose?

They were both blue and red so either would be correct. Jim Beam made Corvette Decanters in the 80's and early 90's and they cover a wide range of Corvette model years. I have a few different years.

If you google Jime Beam Corvette Decanters you will come up with a websight that describes them in detail. One of our forum members here is the author.

If you really get desperate, you can get a resin "transkit" which converts a 1:25 1956/7 Corvette plastic kit into an SR-2. It does require some advanced modeling skills.

Cool! Thank you for the info David. I didn't realize Transkits were still available. I once had a beautiful transkit out of Tron, I believe, which allowed one to convert the Burago 1/18 '57 Corvette into either of the Sebring race cars. As I recall, the T/K included a hardtop, the correct (steel) wheels and a number of other pieces, including the correct decals to built either of the 2 cars. I think one was the Gaston Andrey car, the other was, what - John Fitch's maybe? Sadly, the whole set, including the donor model met its demise during construction at the shop of the modeller who was building it for me. Plumbing disaster. Wonder if any of those old sets survive?

You are correct though; transkits do take some realtively advanced modelling skills. Or, as I used to tell customers during my days as a dealer in Automobilia, if you're an assembler of kits, stick with the poular brands by Revell, Monogram, et al. If you are a modeller, then tackle a nice resin or white metal kit or a T/K.

Things have changed over the years and the die-cast industry (read, China) has grown tremendously and there are now die-cast models of better quality than most of us could produce with a white metal or resin kit. Not to mention a wider variety.

Thanks for the input. I fear my skills have deteriorated to the point where I'd probably have difficulty doing the conversion to an SR-2. But it is good to know that such things are still out there. It was always such great fun to have customers come by and see something they had never knew existed only to discover it was a cheap die-cast modified with a T/K.
