I want to start a slow aquisition of Corvette collectable diecast cars for my office.

What do you think about these the Danbury Mint stuff?

This one is $112 bucks.

Personally, I wouldn't start with a $112 car. :nonod:

I wouldn't either. Start with the Franklin Mint Callaway C12, hand signed by Callaway, and for only $500. Just kidding. I am going to add the 62 to my small collection as soon as I make the last payment on the 58. Damn car payments! :D How come these darn things cost so much anyway? :cry

Nice car, very nice... but you don't have to pay $112. Try ebay or go to the auctions at http://www.diecast.org. You should be able to pick one up for about $60.00.

Good luck.

Personally I don't think the Franklin and Danbury Mint cars are worth the money. It seems that it is a lot harder to get the proportions right with 1:24 scale. There is always something that is just a little bit off. And @ $100+, no thanks.

I'd recommend starting with AutoArt/UT in 1:18 scale. They are by far the best quality at a reasonable price. Currently they have C3s, C5s and C5Rs. The 78 Pace Car would be a great car to start with. If you really want a '62, Ertl makes some that aren't bad, and should only cost you $25 or so.

At this point nobody makes a C4 that's even half-way decent. Ertl has some coming this summer, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Their quality is up and down. The 61s and 62s are pretty good, but the 63s and 67s are weak.

Good Luck

I have that car. You will like it. But check E-bay for a cheaper price as some one else suggested.

IMHO the 1:18s are more substantial and realistic. The ERTL 61s-62s are great and can be found for $25-$40. For the same money, if I was starting a collection, I would by:

ERTL 61 Roadster or 62 Coupe
ERTL 63 SWC
Matell or Revell 69
AutoArt 82
Maisto C4
AutoArt C5 of your choice

Alright so maybe it will cost you a little more my way but you will have more to look at.

Anyone post a picture of the little C1 from the mint.

This will get you started with a collection that represents all the body types.
