Default Franklin Mint differences

I've strictly been collecting 1/18 scale for a while now. But I ended up picking up 2 Franklin Mint cars just for the hell of it (I can't believe I spent this much for a 1/25 scale). An '88 anniversary coupe and a '98 pace car. I can't get over the differences betwwen the two. There is so much more detail on the pace car. You would think thier standards and attention to detail would be consistant. Definitely not the case. Just an observation. Oh well, they are nice cars though.

I agree about the differences. I've never seen the two that you're referring to, but I've noticed similar differences in quality between other FM die-casts. I think it may have something to do with when they were built. That's just a wild guess, but I'm assuming that they may have begun to pay more attention to quality in recent years. I'm also upset that many of the newer die-casts that they've been coming out with are $135 instead of $90 (as if $90 wasn't steep enough.) We may need to stick with AutoArt and UT. Excellent quality and very reasonably priced! I personally prefer Lane Collectibles, but they haven't released a line of Vettes yet.

The difference in prices has to do with exactly that - the detail. The $135 models are usually limited edition that have had more detail crafted in. Stick with these - they are bound to go up in price since they are going to stop production on all thier Corvettes. Several of the 90.00 models are now worth well over $500 on the collectors market (the black C5, the gold C5, the 86 Pace Car, the 82 Collector Edition) and more. And the limited to 1000 pcs. large scale '57 fuelie is now selling for over $5000!!!

BTW, anyone have any of the following FM cars they want to sell -- 82 Red, 93 Anniv, 56 aqua, 82 Navy Limited edition
