Painting a 1/18 scale model
I would like to know some 'how to' information on painting a 1/18 scale model.
I have a c-6 ZR-1 model that is painted red/ black top.
A very good friend of mine owns a 100th anniversary addition ZR-1. His is triple black.
Is there a way to remove the stick on ZR-! decals with out destroying them?
How hard is it to disassemble this type model?
I'd love to build this model to duplicate his real life car.
Any help would be great.

To start with, I have only done a repaint on a Maisto. It was really pretty easy to disassemble and put back together. The decals were toast but they are so small it really wasn't that noticeable when the model was complete. My C7 is shark grey so I purchased real auto paint from Automotivetouchup.com. It was a 2 part system with a clear topcoat and turned out perfect with the rattle cans. I sanded down the original paint with very fine sandpaper to prep but used no primer. It is a great project, but pretty easy to do. Just a little patience required. Good luck.

Thanks,
I did find a process to remove the decals with out damaging them or the existing paint.

I have been building and repairing scale models for over 50 years. The methods in the link above to remove decals won't work . Best bet is to give the disassembled model a bath in DOT3 or lower brake fluid or better still Super Clean Purple cleaner. Leave it soaking for a couple of days then remove the residue with an old tooth brush and/or fine steel wool.Soap clean everything. Next prime it and finish paint it. Make sure primer and paint are compatible. Keep an eye on eBay for decal sheets that have all logos and all scales on one sheet.
