Default Plastic model painting help

I just purchased a 1960 vette and want to do the painting. Being new at this I was just going to buy the Testor air paint kit. Is that the right way to go?

I got the basic $20 one and it works pretty well. The other thing is make sure to get some clear coat too when you get a couple nice coats down.

The spray cans are OK but I found them uneven at times.
