OK gang, How many people out there have purchased or at least have seen the Motorbox Corvette series that was done by Revell for Exoto. As many of you know, Exoto tried to step up to the plate of higher detail level in diecast without having to take out a second mortgage on the house to by one. The Motorbox are not as detailed as the standard Exoto fair but still well detailed for around $60.
There was a time when I received one of these for review and I did look at it, but at that time, I had already sworn off on Exoto or anything made by or for them. My first impression of the Marina Blue '67 was good until I looked at the rear 1/4 panels and I noticed that the wheel wells and body lines made the diecast appear to droop or slope off to the rear.
The fit and finish was very nice, obviously not standard Exoto fair and looked to have Revell's overall quality.
Anyway, You guys are more of a corvette expert than I am. What was your overall impression of the diecast? Is it accurate? If not, what was wrong with it.
Re: Comments on Motorbox Corvettes (DiecastCollector)
I've got the orange Moroso drag racer and the Sunfire Yellow coupe. I think they're great. I read all of the discussions re the droopy rear, and I fail to see a problem with them. They are miles ahead of the Ertl midyears and while the new Maisto '65 is great for its price, the Motorbox are by far the best midyears I've seen (excluding the Exoto GSs). I see that Kevin @ Scale18 is showing some future models: Black 427 Coupe, Black 427 Roadster, Wine 427 Roadster. He's also got instock ones on sale for $39.95. Great buy at that price, I might be getting another one!
I have the Green 427,Yellow 327,Maroon327 Coupes and Blue Roadster and think they are good except for the fact they used a big block engine in the small block cars and the number of fins on the wheels is 25 not 36 as the 1:1's were (even maisto got this right for a whole lot less money). The paint is flawless and I don't notice any drooping of the rear quarters. All in All they are alot better than the ertls. I did not know these were made by Revell.I have all the Revell 69 Roadsters but the Orange TRU ed. and although they are nice , not near the quality of the exoto's ,especially the paint. I will definately get the new ones as they come out. :yesnod:
I somehow missed the Revell part the first time I read it. Are you sure about that? I think Revell markets Exoto in Europe and has their name on the boxes, but based upon what you read about Tony K. at Exoto I can't imagine him letting someone else make his cars.
Yes these were done by Revell of Germany. Some of the European releases are marketed with Revell's name on the box.
For more info, you can go to http://www.revell.de . This is Revell of Germany's website. First off, unless you can read german, I'd advise you to click on the english version in the upper right hand corner. Then in the left hand border click products, then metal.
Once you are in the diecast section, on the left hand border under Catalog Search, type in "Corvette" and page through the listing that comes up.
You'll see first off that Exoto is widely out there on Revell's site in germany as the first of the Exoto line is the gran sport vettes followed by the Motorbox vettes listed as "oldtimer". Trust me fellas, these are made by Revell for Exoto and sold as Motorbox.

I have the maroon 67 coupe small block and I think they did a real good job for the money, especially the paint. I held it next to my own marlboro maroon coupe and the match was almost exact. that being said I also have the 65 coupe from maisto which cost me less then 1/3 the price and I would say its almost as nice as the motorbox. Both cars are very nice, but for $15.00 Maisto really gave us a gift this year.
I think that they are great cars for the price. I wish that I would have been smart enough to pick up the 'Vert when it came out. I have the Green, Orange, Yellow, and Maroon and think that they look great. I can't believe that the hood raises on the green one, the clearance is so close. I too agree that the price of the Maisto is better, but love the detail of the Motorbox.
I almost bought one of these a few different times, but there is one detail on them that just kills the whole thing for me. I know this is really picky, but I just can't get past the black paint they used to mark the headlight doors. The lines are just too thick and I think it looks terrible. It makes the model look too cartoonish. Just my opinion. Otherwise, I think they look really good, but I just can't get past those headlight door lines. :U
I wish that I would have been smart enough to pick up the 'Vert when it came out.

If you still want the Blue Roadster go to http://www.shiremodels.com.au and get one for around $50 U.S.Dollars. They list all the exotos for $89 Austrailian dollars so with our dollar being worth about 1.80 of theirs it comes out to be a pretty good deal. I got the Blue convertible and Green 427 from them and it only took about 10 days. Great people down under! :yesnod:
