Default telling the difference ?

I have a small collection of 1:18 Corvettes and always look for others..
Many I see say Z-06 without a year etc. Many are different manufacturers etc.
are there specific differences to look for in the later models such as 1999, 2000, 2001 etc. are are they really the same car..just a different color..without a specific year ..
My objective is to collect one of each eventually..Just don't want to duplicate..and cant tell a 2000 from a 1999 or 1998..
Any advice appreciated from the real collectors..
Thanks in advance from Virginia..and Happy and safe New Year

Well, we all know that there are only 98 or later verts, 99 or later FRC and 01 or later Z06 cars. The 01 Z06 has the unique side badging, all others being 405 monikers and with HUDs. Nobody makes a correct 02 or above Z06 yet from what I have seen.
The wagon wheels are on all the 97-99 model years and the thin spokes on the 2000 and newer.
UT did a car or two with the Magnesium wheels on them, so that is unique. Think it was a mag red vert.
Maisto has the 98 pace car. UT did the Daytona, Le Mans pace/safety cars.
I haven't seen a new Ertl 04 Z06 yet, so I won't comment on them.
Ertl and Auto Art both did a 03 Pace car. I have the Ertl and it looks okay. Nothing to scream about, but it isn't a travisty.

I really can't tell the difference in any Corvette model made to resemble 2000 on. I'm not sure there is a difference that the model makers could really zero in on.

Thanks, Goody.
I saw a 1:18 scale 2003 and wasn't sure if was identical to the 2001 so I didn't buy it..I am still reading your info to help me understand the differences..
I think I will focus on the older ones for now..I have a 1954 so I will work up from there since I still need about 35 more model years to complete my collection..
Have a great new year.
