Can anyone share disassembly and reassembly tips with regards to Maisto 1:18 C5 models?
I have some Z06 models that I want to customize - I will start with a TR model - I want to do the Mod Red interior on it - and then if I am happy with the results - I will do one of the "precious" EB Z06's with the Mod Red interior.
I ran into some rivets holding the front of the car together - so before I drill - I am going to the experts.
I think there are 4 screws on the bottom. 2 rear 2 front. They are easy to locate. Once you remove those you can lift the body off. The roof just snaps into place so you can remove that pretty easily. The entire interior can be removed in pieces, so you don't actually have to destroy a EB Maisto. You can just use the interior from another Maisto and paint it mod red then place it into the EB Maisto. I did a couple of mod reds and some black rim Maistos myself. I would like to make a white Maisto Z, but I haven't bothered with that yet.
I did remove the four screws you mentioned, but the car did not come apart.
I see that there are two rivets showing under the nose of the car - and I think these may be holding the interior to the body -
I will try again this evening and see if I can get it to come apart.
I learned long ago not to force anything - if it isn't coming aprt without force, it probably is not being done correctly .
One other idea I had was to attempt to modify some wheels from a "Dub City" car to put on a Maisto C5 - there is one kind of "dub city" wheels that look similar to the CCW 505A's - and I think you know where I am going with that!
I don't have one in front of me, but if memory serves (and I'm pushing 40! ), you have to pop out the exhaust system to expose another screw up near the tranny somewhere. I do know that the whole chassis uses screws, no rivets. You might be seeing the rivets that hold the hood hinge to the body. The Maisto C5 hood is riveted, where their C4 hood is screwed on. That's what makes the C5 a pain-in-the-butt to repaint.
I've modded so many Vettes that I might be wrong, but it's worth a look.
I am looking at the exhaust - you must gently bend the rear portion of the pipes to remove them and then there are two push-in expansion-snap clamps on the front part - I used a small flatbladed screw driver to press on it and pull it out.
You must also remove the mufflers - the are pushed in with only and interference fit - once removed, there are yet two more screws - then she falls apart.
thanks to the both of you for the help -
I just didn't want to destroy one to get it apart -
