I see Auto Art is releasing (3) Comemrative Ed. Blue 2004 Corvettes.Z16.Coupe and convertibles. Their website lists them as available now so we should see them soon. Wonder if they will do a 2004 Pace car?
Well, if AutoArt has even a hint of Ertl in its blood, I would say yes, but AutoArt does not regularly reuse their molds for some reason. I can't think of a single mold that they reused several times over. I hope they choose to with the new '82 and '78 molds. I'm dying for a solid colored '80-'82, as opposed to the CE edition they've released... twice. The '82 mold is incredible and I'd love to have one in red, white, black... anything.
You can say Ertl and AutoArt are polar opposites when it comes to use of their molds. Ertl uses them to death, and AutoArt makes one and then breaks the mold.
They've been reusing the C5 molds for years, including doing Anniversary coupes, 'verts and Pace Cars last year, so hopefully they'll do the full range of '04 including the new pace car.

Hey Steve, are you referring to the UT C5 molds? Most people consider AutoArt and UT as the same company, but if I'm not mistaken, AutoArt purchased them shortly before they disolved the business unit. Their Contemporary line seems to be the line that took the place of UT. I might be wrong, but I don't think AutoArt owned UT while they were producing all those C5s.
They only reason I say that AutoArt doesn't seem to overuse their molds is because usually their cars in the $40+ range are produced in 2 or maybe 3 colors or styles, and then they don't produce any more. Their Contemporary line seems to be following the lines of the old UT line with the same car produced in several colors, but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to hold true with their other lines.
Am I off base on this? Anyone else have any thoughts?
I don't really know the history of the merger, but AutoArt seems to be continuing the old UT molds with the 50th C5s last year and the C3s this year (with some improvements). I imagine that unless there's licensing problems (like with the C6) that they'll do all 3 versions of the 04 CE. I'd love to see them do the PC, maybe the 98 too.
Well, that sounds great to me. I wish they would reuse their molds a bit more to give people variety of which color or design of a car they would like to buy. I think Highway 61 uses their molds much more effectively. This is like telling you that water is wet, but Ertl uses their molds to death. It's really quite annoying. Maybe if they would improve the quality of their diecasts, like they have with the Precision line, their numerous rereleases of all their molds wouldn't be quite as annoying. They love to flood the market.
Well on their website http://www.autoartmodels.com/pages/s...php?item=71157 they list the 2004's in Commerative Blue as:
71152 Convertible
71157 Coupe
80405 ZO6 w/stripes
I disagree that they don't over use their C5 molds, these are probably the same molds that all the UT's were cast from.Just look at all the color variation there was there.I've got 16 different UT C5's and the 3 Auto art 2003's,so I'd say these molds have about paid for themselves.Don't be surprised if we don't see alot more C-3's in different colors coming out.
