I have just read another post and they talked about removing chassis to create cars that look like their own. I have been trying to find one that looks like mine but have not. In the interim I do have a couple that I could take apart to try and replicate mine. But I don't want to break it taking them apart. I thought I'd ask here for the best way of doing this without breaking anything. Hope this isn't to dumb a question.
Diecast cars are generally easy to disassemble. If you look at the chassis, most have screws at the front, middle, and rear. Undo those and you should be okay. Different brands have them in different places, and some are even hidden in wheelwells. Also, the same car can have different size screws, so keep them straight so you can reassemble the car correctly. I'm not sure what brand(s) you're working with, but most are pretty easy. It's most a matter of keeping track of any part or screw you remove, and don't force anything to hard, especially the plastic parts. It's trial and error each time you disassemble a new brand, but each time after that it's easier. I took apart my first Hot Wheels C6 a couple of weeks ago, and not I can do it blindfolded. Sorta like tearing down and reassembling an M16 rifle, once you learn, you never forget!
It's an ERTL model and has 3 screws across the front facia underneath. And 2 more under the rocker panels. But I don't see anything under the rearend. And the chassis just won't come away from the body. Any help much appreciated.

What year is it? I'm not sure if you're talking C3, C5, or what. Many brands of C5's have screws under or near the mufflers. You may have to pry up the mufflers, which are usually just tack-glued to the undercarriage. Also, some have a single center screw up near the engine where the exhaust split to go up to the manifolds.
I'm going from memory here, since I don't have one in front of me. If you don't find anything under or around the exhaust, check around the rear suspension or fenderwells. Maybe someone who here who has one in their collection can take a look.
