am going to doing a head cam and other mods on friends 98 a4 vette. he currently has corsa rear, veraram,ls6 intake, 3.73 gears. have set of full length stainless works headers and x pipe to go on. what head and cam combo is best bang for buck. he wants to maintain stock like idle, so a 114-115 lsa will be in order, and he has looked at the 224 and like 560 or so cam. as for heads, stock ls6, patriot performance ls6 heads, and has even looked at the afr205, though they are a little more $. he does high speed driving events and is an instructor for the local porsche, bmw, and vette club. also, any need to benefit to a torque converter upgrade. and mods and or suggestions greatly appreciated. i can advise on drag set up, but you guys are a bit different! Thanks, joe in memphis.
224 is a good point for good idle, but it will still lope more than stock. He may need to go smaller than that. If he is not going to go wild with the cam, all the more reason to get the best heads you can on, to maximize the power of the combo. AFRs would get my vote.
With the 3.73's, a 2400-2800 stal lconverter would work very nicely, and keep a near stock feel. Go for the 9.5" converters like vigilante's or yank, they are lighter and smaller diameter than stock which will improve acceleration.

MTI's Stealth series cams would be your best bet for a stock sounding idle. I've heard good reviews on them and you get some nice lift increases, the AFR's would definatly help you get the most of these cams.
