Default OT - The "Heartbeat of America" Turns 50!

Off Topic, but of interest:

The new issue of Motor Trend has a special section celebrating the 50th anniversary of Chevy's mouse motor. Features include:

1. Story of the engine's development

2. MT's 100 reasons why its America's greatest engine

3. Top ten Chevy/small block combinations

4. MT writer hand builds a new LS7

5. Roger Penske, Jim Hall, Mario Andretti and others reminisce about their favorite small blocks.

Well worth the price of the mag.

How can it be the 50th anniversary if they don't install it in vehicles anymore? The last time GM installed mouse motors in vehicles was in the 2000 model year with the old generation trucks and SUVs.

The LS1/LS6/LS2 engines don't count they are a totally different design.

Belay that thought matey! Ski Natuique and Mastercraft still use the old style small blocks in their tournament water ski boats. Especially since Ford quite selling pushrod small blocks. The modular engines are far too bulky and wide to work in a tournament boat installation. The small blocks have a good combination of light weight and good bottom end torque as well as top end power which the tournament skiers especially appreciate.
