Has anyone tried Porterfield brake pads?
I'm also looking at different pads for track use and have seen many opinions, but I don't recall anyone using brake pads from Porterfield....has anyone ever tried them?

Melting Slicks
Porterfield also sells the pricey but excellent Raybestos RT-42(I think that's it) which I have used. Much longer wearing than Hawk blue, Carbotechs or KVP Gold. This was on a C$ with J-55's.

Safety Car
One of the guys that I run with all of the time tried out a set on his J55 C4 recently. They lasted one weekend and the dust they produced was extremely corrosive.
Needless to say he has gone back to using CarboTech XP10s.

I've used a set of Porterfield R4's. Hated them! They felt hard, the car didn't stop and I had brake fade.
I used PFC 83's and 93's for years and loved them until they stopped making them for my caliper.
Now I run the Raybestos ST-41 (Sidney, I think that's what you meant) up front, ST-43 rear. Great pad, great life. I have near a full season on them and they will probably get me through September as well (three more track days).
Good initial bite, linear feel, quick release. I don't trail brake much so I can't comment on how smooth they are in that situation.
Go to Porterfield's website:

and click on the brakes link. They sell many popular brands (Hawk, PFC, Wilwood, their own) and have nice write ups on each pad. Very informative.

I had a set of R4 pads. Good price but they glazed and they did not stop very well as a result. I sanded the fronts and tey will be seeing street duty. They wear out very fast and do not operate at high temp very well. They seem like beefed up street pads, not full on race pads.
Have Raybestos ST43's now and really like them.
If you are a NASA member Porterfield will give you a discount on any pads they carry.
Good Luck,
S.

I have run the Porterfield R4S (Street) and the R4 & R4E. The latter two seemed harder on the roters than my Carbotech XP10/9's.
Since experimenting with Carbotech's I have to say I am very happy and they have earned my future business. Plus Larry is a Corvette guy too!
