I have looked around in the other forums about this but to no avail.
My e-brake stoped working properly. At first it would rachet up but I had to "push" it back down when holding in the button. Now it does not rachet at all and will not stay in the up/hold position, even when you let out the button, it just falls back down. Has a cable or the racheting mechanism broke?
Thanks in advance.
Jacob
Hey Jake, I had a similar situation occur on another C5 I used to own. It was the ratcheting mechanism. It offered no resistance when pulled on, but it would hold once engaged. The dealer replaced the ratcheting part of it and it worked well after that. From what I've been told and what I've read, that seems to be a common problem with these cars.
Often the lubrication in the e-brake ratcheting mechanism solidifies causing the ratcheting mechanism to not work properly or at all. Try removing the parking brake handle/mechanism and work lubricant into all pivots and make sure ratchet operates freely. :Lubricant is significantly cheaper than parts from GM. This is primarily caused by transmission tunnel temperatures---it cooks the grease.
