Joe,

I've looked for coverage of the Australian V8 Supercar series
without any success. SPEED showed races over the winter last year.

(I know people in NA mistake it for a downunder version of NASCAR,
but IMO, it is exciting road and street course action in high tech,
romping RWD V8's.)

Do you happen to know whether there will be any programming
for the series this year?

The Series website says the 2006 races are to be broadcast on SPEED with schedule TBA, but SPEED website does not include the series on its list of racing programing

http://www.speedtv.com/programs/

But then again, SPEED program list does not include the SCCA run-offs either, (which it will be televising), , go figure

Then there is hope.

I looked for something on the V8 Supercars site but only saw
mention of their domestic coverage (Channel 10?). Guess I
needed to look harder.

Thanks for checking!

Did not know about this until seeing your post.

Here is an AP newswire report from the International Herald Tribune

"Members of Toyota Formula One team
attacked by gunmen in Brazil"

The Associated Press October 21, 2006
"About 20 teenagers stopped us and other cars as we left the
track Friday afternoon," Toyota spokeswoman Fernanda Villas-Boas
said. "Some people tried to escape and they started shooting, we
lowered our heads and were able to flee. Thankfully nothing more
serious happened."
