HPDE Report-Watkins Glen 20-21 Aug
Safely back from the Glen.
First time there ... ran with Phoenix CMR ... lotsa Mustangs ... and Corvettes well-represented too.
Good meeting Keith (KMagVette) there and others.
Good track for corvettes ... if there's any way possible for y'all, I suggest you put it high on your list.
Had a cool, dry day Mon, followed by drizzle Tue AM.
Looking at low clouds and heavier rain about 1:30, I bailed out, bracing for a 5hour drive home on Nitto 555RII's . They're OK, as long as one avoids standing water ... that goes for track AND road!
... but I think things cleared up and those who stayed got some good track time in Tues PM.
Phoenix CMR tries to maximize track time ... has a good program, well organized and executed.
GP 1 (Novice) held to 4 25 min sessions a day (in my experience, that's about right).
Gp 2 & 3 got 4 x 40 min sessions per day (I ran Gp 2; had to go in for gas at noon Monday!) ... even leaving after two sessions Tuesday I still got 4 hrs track time!
Had an excellent instructor to check me out, cleared me conditionally for solo, then came back for the last Monday session to make sure I knew what I was supposed to know, demonstrated what I was supposed to be able to do, and helped me find speed on the track.
Separate post on this ... but I LOVE my newly installed DRM radiator (Ron Davis radiator with integrated EOC and Doug Rippie line kit. Money and time well spent.

I don't run with that group. I'm usually there with PDA and occassionally with TrackMasters. My next date is Sept. 17/18. If you make it, please look me up, #52 with the corvette challenge body. I run in the red group.

Mungo,
The weather never really cleared. The first afternoon session really got wet while the second afternoon session was somewhat wet. Track didnt start drying until after it closed. I had the red Z in Garage 2.

OK, Bill ... thanks ... now I don't feel so badly about bailing early ... I had originally planned on leaving after the third anyway, due to the drive.
Yes ... I think you had the "hi vis" tape on your fender edges. nice Z ...
Next time I should get around more!
