Default AutoX tire wear

I just put on a new set or PS2's. One day of highspeed AutoX and the outside tread (3") on all four tires is worn quite a bit more than the rest of the tread. Is this a pressure problem or something else?

Autcross will cause tires to wear on the outside especially if you are running stock pressures and alignment. An autocross-specific alignment will help as will adjusting tire pressures for the weight of the car, course design and speeds encountered.

What alignment specs are you using and what tire pressures??

Default tire wear

34 cold on front and and 32 rear. The car is a 2000 stock C5. Alignment is stock. I noticed a few posts suggesting negative camber helps. How much?

I destroyed the outside of my old track tires with 1.5deg negative at an autox....so more than that.

As much as you can dial in. But you will then wear the insides on street driving. Like so many things you really can't have it both ways.

Many threads on alignment, check them out.

I always ran my street tires on my non-Z06 C5 at 40/F and 36/R to keep them from rolling over and wearing the outside edges. Street tires have softer sidewalls and will roll over much more than Dot-Rs. FWIW

You know that the PS2s come with less tread in the outer third, right? Those lateral grooves in that part should only be about two-thirds as deep as the main circumferential grooves to start with.

Also, that outer area is made of softer rubber than the rest of the tread. That's one thing that makes the tires so sticky, but that part will wear faster under continuous fast cornering.

I have managed to pretty well tear up some tires autocrossing, but that seems to depend on the tires - some just don't take to being stressed when cold. I've never had that problem with PS2s.
