Adding oil for AutoX
I have a question that I have not been able to find tje answer for. It is recomended in the owners manual of my 03 Z to add 1 quart of oil for racing. I have been concidering AutoXing. What my I want to know if where on the dip stick this would roughly be (top of cross hatch, over cross hatch), and after the event do you need to drain the excess oil?
Thanks

I think that adding a quart for track days/HPDE's is what the manual recommends, but for autocross it would depend on the course and speeds encountered. For most autocross events, it would not be necessary to add an entire quart of oil.
Just check the dipstick to make sure that the level in within the marks. You could add a small amount to get the level just to the top of the crosshatches and that would work too.
To remove the excess oil, some people just remove the oil filter and install a new one (don't fill it with oil) and start the motor.

I run the extra quart on the track and at autocrosses. You really do not need to know what the level will indicate on the dipstick the first time you add it. Just make sure the oil level is right to the full line on the dipstick and add the extra quart. Go for a 15 minute drive and park on a level surface to check the oil level. Let the car sit for at least 3 minutes before checking it. That will show you where on the dipstick you fill it to if you have to add some oil to keep the level a quart over. You don't need to drain it out after you do this. It doesn't hurt anything to leave it in although there may be some **** retentive people who will tell you it is a big deal. However, they probably make mole hills into mountains for a living.

I run a half-quart over (normal fill is 6.5 qts, I put in 7), but honestly, for autox I don't think the corners are hard enough for a long enough duration to cause problems.
DEs or track days is where you need a full qt over, esp. if you're running R-compounds.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Thanks for the input, I just want to make sure I am not going to miss something and hurt the engine. I am sure I will have more questions if I decide to run track events.
